DAD...MODERN MEDICINE...
   and the
   GREAT PHYSICIAN!

My dad is a strong, stubborn man.  He knows what he wants, he is rarely bothered by what others think and won't do anything he doesn't to.  That is not to say he isn't kind, in fact, he is one of the kindest, most loving men I have ever met.  In fact, he was my example when looking for a husband and father.  BUT, he is STUBBORN!  So when they said he needed heart surgery I was really concerned that he wouldn't get better, frankly, because HE didn't WANT to.

Having said that, I never cease to be amazed by modern medicine.  It has many limitations, but there are so many new advances everyday that it is a wonder doctors can keep up.  Yesterday was a LONG day.  Yesterday we arrived at the hospital at 5:00 AM to be with my dad before his bypass surgery.  He was due to have triple, maybe quad bypass and a valve repair.  It was a LONG 7 hours waiting and waiting and praying and praying and waiting and praying some more.  In the end he had a QUINTUPLE bypass and no valve needing to be repair.  Today my dad is sitting up in his chair, walking (gingerly) and talking.  HOLY COW!!!  They told us he would be doing all of these things, but, if I am honest, I thought they were NUTS!

I should have known better.  You see, we have a great physician, actually, we have THE GREAT PHYSICIAN.  Over the last two weeks, our family asked for prayers, we begged for prayers, and have coveted every last one of them.  God didn't have to answer our prayers in the way we had hoped, He has His plan and it doesn't always fit with our wishes, but He did.  My dad is on the road to recovery.  It is a long and bumpy road, fraught with all kinds of potholes, but it is a start.  God has shown His favor and blessed this family.

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
2 Chron. 7:14
